Frequently Asked Questions
WPM (Words Per Minute) is calculated using the standard formula: (total characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. Dividing by 5 is the industry standard, as the average English word is approximately 5 characters long including spaces.
Accuracy is the percentage of correct keystrokes out of total keystrokes. For each character you type, it is compared against the corresponding character in the target text. The result is (correct characters ÷ total typed) × 100.
The average typist reaches around 40–60 WPM. Professional typists or regular computer users often achieve 70–100 WPM. Speeds above 100 WPM are considered excellent. Even small daily practice sessions can significantly improve your speed over time.
WPM is based on total characters typed regardless of errors. However, accuracy is tracked separately so you can see both your raw speed and the quality of your typing.
